Nevada charges no state tax on a $10,000 crypto gain. Nevada does not tax personal income, so crypto gains are not taxed at the state level. Federal capital-gains tax still applies.

Only federal capital-gains tax applies, so the rate turns entirely on how long you held: short-term gains are taxed as ordinary income, long-term at 0%, 15% or 20%. Figures use 2026 Nevada rules and 2026 federal rules, single filer. Holding period decides the federal rate.

Nevada's freedom from income tax is constitutional rather than merely statutory: Article 10, Section 1 of the Nevada Constitution provides that no income tax shall be levied upon the wages or personal income of natural persons. The revenue comes off the casino floor instead — the Gaming Commission collects a monthly license fee on gross gaming revenue that steps up from 3.5% on the first $50,000 a month, to 4.5% between $50,000 and $134,000, to 6.75% on everything above that (NRS 463.370). A separate 9% Live Entertainment Tax is imposed on the admission charge at any facility with a minimum occupancy of 200. There is one payroll levy in the mix, but it is not withheld from you: the Modified Business Tax is paid by employers, at 1.17% for most general businesses, with the first $50,000 of quarterly wages left non-taxable under NRS 363B.110.

Nevada does not tax capital gains or crypto gains either — with no state income tax, investment profits are taxed only at the federal level.

Common questions

Does Nevada tax crypto gains?
No. Nevada levies no individual income tax for 2026 and has no separate capital-gains tax, so selling crypto is a federal-only taxable event there. Nevada funds itself through sales taxes and employer-side business taxes.
How much Nevada tax would a $10,000 crypto gain cost?
Nothing at the state level. Stacked on Nevada's $80,590 median household income (2024), a $10,000 gain adds $0 of Nevada tax; the federal bill is the only one that changes.
What do I owe when I sell crypto in Nevada?
Federal tax only: short-term gains at your ordinary federal rate, long-term gains at the federal 0%, 15% or 20% rates. The same $10,000 gain on top of a $80,590 income would cost roughly $495 in state tax in the typical income-taxing state.

How we calculate this

Federal lot-matching per our crypto-tax methodology, plus Nevada's 2026 state treatment of capital gains. Estimates only — not tax advice.

Estimates for general informational purposes only; not tax advice. Crypto tax rules are complex and Nevada state treatment is simplified here — verify with the state Department of Revenue and a tax professional. Nevada has no state income tax, so there is no state schedule to simplify — this calculator covers what comes out of your pay, not the sales taxes and employer-side business taxes that Nevada relies on instead.
